Murgiana Haq

Managing Partner

Murgiana Haq is the Managing Partner of hslegal LLP. She is an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court, Singapore and a Registered Patents Agent.  Murgiana has had an illustrious career in intellectual property matters since 1974. She was at the forefront of many intellectual property developments in Singapore where she played a key role. She was the first President of Asian Patent Attorneys Association–Singapore Group and served on the main Group Council as a Councillor and Vice-President. She was instrumental in setting up the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association on which she served as President. She was the first Chair of the Women Business Lawyer’s Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association. She served on Singapore’s Franchise Advisory Committee during its formative years. She was an Advisory Committee Member of the National Patents and Innovation Centre and served on the Advisory Board of the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Committee, which was formed to promote entrepreneurship and innovation.

Murgiana is ever willing to break new ground in her work. In the early 1970s, she obtained the first IP-related Anton Pillar Order in Singapore from the High Court. She also acted successfully in the first copyright case involving software in Singapore. She also took on the first referral to the Copyright Tribunal in Singapore. Murgiana has been nominated as a leading IP lawyer for Singapore in several publications such as Asia Law Profiles, Legal 500 and Experts Guide on Leading IP Lawyers. She was nominated a top lawyer in IP in Singapore by IP Asia.

Tasneem Haq

Partner

Tasneem specialises in contentious and non-contentious IP issues. She enjoys the creative process whether it be helping artists and authors with copyright issues or assisting clients with design and trade mark strategy to enhance their business model and increase their IP value.

In terms of day to day practice, Tasneem manages a number of IP disputes, works on the prosecution of “clever” trade marks and drafts a variety of IP agreements to suit her client’s business needs. She acts for a number of famous and well-known brands, advising their filing strategy and their enforcement matters.

 Tasneem is the Honorary Secretary of ISTMA, the Institute of Singapore Trade Mark Agents, an association which started in August 2019. Tasneem’s other memberships include the Singapore Academy of Law, INTA (Programming Team 2020, Singapore), Marques and the Asian Patent Attorney’s Association (APAA).

When not working, Tasneem enjoys a weekly pub quiz and regular hikes in Singapore’s fabulous nature reserves. Household DIY work has been a new lockdown addition to hobbies in 2020.

Ferzana Haq

Partner

Having trained and worked at top City law firms in London, Ferzana joined hslegal in 2014 and brings a wealth of commercial expertise to the practice.

Ferzana thrives on helping her clients grow their ingenuity, creativity and enterprise into a successful business. Ferzana manages IP portfolios, handles IP enforcement and disputes and also advises on commercial matters including shareholder agreements and joint ventures, licensing, franchising and collaboration agreements.

Outside of work, Ferzana loves picking up new creative skills – such as learning the piano and picking up new languages (currently Spanish!).

Ferzana is a member of the Law of Society of Singapore, INTA and APAA and currently sits on the INTA Regulation Sub – Committee.

Ferzana actively volunteers with the Law Society of Singapore to provide pro bono legal advice to charities, non – profits and social enterprises.

Angela Lee

Consultant

Angela Lee is an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore. Since her Call to the Singapore Bar in 1971, she has handled numerous aspects of Conveyance Law including:

Estate Law (Wills, Applications for Grants  of Probate and Letters of  Administration)
Company Law (Joint Venture Agreements & Sale of Shares)
Matrimonial Law (separation agreements & divorce)
Mental Incapacity Act (advising on and preparation of Lasting Powers of Attorney and applications for Appointment of Deputies)
Contract Law (including drafting agreements in connection with employment, sales, agency and distributorship)

Angela is conversant in Malay and Cantonese. In her spare time, Angela enjoys long outdoor walks, swimming, gardening, dancing and
travelling.
